SMWA World
Heavyweight Title Match
"The
Cruncher" Jack Slade (C)
vs
Mike
Haggar
It
was one of those rare, civil moments in pro wrestling. Usually, when
partners break up, it involves a sneak attack or a chairshot to the face.
Not for Mike Haggar and Jack Slade. Slade told Mike that he could
no longer team with him, and Haggar was fine with that. A messy conflict
was avoided.
Unfortunately, that did not last.
Jack Slade has been under the wing of Mike Haggar ever since Haggar saved
him from a locker room attack from Sarge X's Platoon three years ago.
After a little bit of coaxing from Mike's daughter, Jessica, the two joined
forces became quite the force for good in the SMWA. Together, they
decimated the Platoon, helped fend off the assault of the Doomsday Hunters
and sent the psychotic Scorpion packing. With Haggar's power and
experience, Slade's cagey ways and mat skills, and Jessica Haggar calling
the shots, these two had a firm grip on the hearts of the SMWA fans.
And somewhere along the line, Jack Slade and Jessica Haggar fell in love.
Things started to change earlier this year when SMWA legend Jerry Kent
returned after a long absence. Slade became his immediate target.
Kent claimed that Slade hadn't earned his main event status, that he had
leeched it off of Haggar. This didn't sit well with Slade.
Breaking away from the last stages of the SMWA - Doomsday Hunter war, Slade
went after Kent with a vengeance, to prove, if nothing else, that he was
his own man.
After the war with Kent was over, Jack Slade had another foe to deal with
- Charlie Angel. Insanely believing that Slade was wrestling's "Second
Coming" due to his friendship with Haggar, Angel stalked Slade for months,
trying to show his appreciation to the "Chosen One". Slade eventually
got fed up with Angel, finally besting him in a controversial cross match
at Heatwave, where Angel actually attempted to NAIL Slade to a cross.
Then came Cody Simmons.
Cody was Jessica's old flame from New York, and they had apparently ended
their relationship on some shaky terms. Still, Cody wanted Jessica
back and only one man stood in his way. Jack Slade.
During this time, Mike Haggar was on a run to regain his World Title, which
he had lost to "Tricky" Rick Clark at Slam Masters: Wild Card. Finally
regaining it from Zangief at Back Street Brawl, Haggar was again targeted
by Clark and his new partner, "The Rebel" Jerry Kent. Simply the
Best was looking to get that belt off of Haggar, and knew just how they
could do it.
Cody was recruited into Simply the Best. Haggar had to face an old
ally of his. And Jack Slade came back in to the picture. Haggar
and Slade were teaming again.
But it was not the Haggar and Slade of old.
Cody kept alluding to events that occurred in New York City back when he
and Jessica were an item. Slade kept asking what Cody was talking
about, but he was met with silence from the Haggar's. For whatever
reason, they couldn't tell Jack what Cody was talking about. And
it frustrated Jack to no end.
Cody kept taunting Jack about New York City and his past with Jessica.
Jerry Kent kept on Jack about his questionable superstar status.
Rick Clark did his best to piss everybody off, commenting on how Slade
was Haggar's shadow, his lackey, his "boy". And Slade was believing
it.
Things were getting to Jack Slade and, after a month of psychological torture,
he did what he had to do. He told Mike Haggar that he could no longer
team with him. Haggar was upset, but he understood. Then, in
a shocker, Jack broke up with Jessica. If he truly wanted to be out
of Mike Haggar's shadow, he needed to be away from anybody named
Haggar.
Even after the break-up, things didn't get better. Jack Slade had
a match with The Actor at Thanksgiving Thunder. The Actor came dressed
up like Haggar, while Clone came out dressed like Jessica. Haggar
squashed The Actor in under five minutes, but that didn't make him feel
much better. He was still in the shadow of Haggar, even after breaking
away from him.
Haggar, on the other hand, had his own problems. After finally shutting
up StB at Thanksgiving Thunder, Ghost came out of nowhere to take his World
Title. A rematch was scheduled for Slam Masters: Final Breath.
Haggar would have the chance to become a six-time champion. And the
winner of that match would face the winner of BattleCrash, a four man pinfalls
included battle royal. Jack Slade was a part of BattleCrash.
Haggar was jumped at Final Breath and was hospitalized for the evening.
He was unable to make the match with Ghost. Jack Slade won the BattleCrash
match and, in a shocker, was given the match with Ghost that night!
In what may have been the greatest match of the year, Slade defeated Ghost
and won his first ever World Title. And Commissioner McCullough had
already decided on who he would fight next.
Mike Haggar.
But Haggar suddenly didn't want a World Title shot. Slade knew something
was up and confronted Haggar. After several tense verbal confrontations,
the truth was revealed. Slade wanted the match so he could beat Haggar
and finally jump out of his shadow. Haggar didn't want the match
because he missed their friendship and worried that a main event match
at a PPV would destroy any chances of that friendship being rekindled.
Finally, though, Haggar caved.
Slade told Haggar that this friendship would die if Haggar didn't wrestle
him. Haggar is afraid it will die anyway. This isn't just a
World Title match. It's a fight to save a friendship.
What's On The Line
Really,
we've covered it. For Jack Slade, this is the chance to jump out
of the monstrous shadow cast by Mike Haggar. A win would quiet a
lot of sceptics and perhaps finally prove that Slade is a main event calibre
wrestler, Mike Haggar or not. A loss would give the critics that
much more firepower.
For Mike Haggar, it's a chance for a sixth World Title. The World
Championship has defined Haggar throughout his career, and vice versa.
If the master can beat the student, it will be yet another milestone on
a miles long list of accomplishment. If Haggar loses, where does
he go from here?
The friendship itself is also on the line. If Slade loses, does the
friendship die? If Haggar loses, will Slade even want to rekindle
the friendship, and what kind of friendship would it be? And, let's
be honest. This is going to be a big match. Emotions will run
high and this will likely turn into a fight. Can anything positive
come out of a Mike Haggar - Jack Slade brawl?
And finally, there's Jessica. She loves her father, and she still
loves Jack Slade. She's hoping this match ends as quickly and peacefully
as possible.
However, that will most likely not happen.
North
American Title Match
"Daredevil"
Ron Grayson
vs
"CEO"
Terry Sky
Sky
Entertainment Ltd. was never a very stable stable. Marred by poor
talent, difficulties within the group and unclear goals, the huge stable
tended to buckle under it's own weight rather than crush their opponents.
Showcasing the internal difficulties were the two top men in the group.
The CEO, Terry Sky, and the Director of Personnel, Ron Grayson.
Grayson and Sky had different ways of running the group. Grayson
booted Lantern after a short slump but hired Clepto the Clown, brought
in Monica as an "intern" and offered membership to Simply the Best, the
stable featuring Rick Clark, the man who lost his right eye as a result
of Terry Sky.
Terry wasn't too happy with what Grayson was doing to his stable, and the
timing couldn't have been worse. Sky was trying to win a feud against
his former bodyguard, "Titan" Tim Redbury, who had broken free from Sky
Entertainment to form the Raiders, a group who's sole purpose was to bring
Sky Entertainment Ltd. down.
The Raiders vs Sky Entertainment Ltd feud was to be settled in a massive
Rolling Thunder match at Thanksgiving Thunder. That's when Grayson
made his dumbest move ever. Having just won the North American Title
from Titan earlier in the evening, Grayson thought he had a "get-out-of-the-match-free"
card. Not only did he leave the arena minutes before the match began,
but he chose as his replacement ROKURU! The Teddy Bear of Destruction
did well for himself, but it was Titan Tim standing alone at the end of
the Rolling Thunder match. The Raiders had won the feud.
Terry Sky was furious. On Saturday Night Slam Masters, he attempted
to fire Grayson. However, Grayson was ready. It looked like
he had brought Sky Entertainment onto his side. However, he was short
three people - Angus Wallace, Hamish Mactavish and The Flying Scotsman.
Sky had his new Highland Hit Squad clear the ring of the pitiful Daredevil
Productions.
Grayson fumbled and bumbled with whoever was left on his side, but soon,
he found himself standing alone. He needed a team for a six man tag
against The Hit Squad at Final Breath. But who would team up with
Ron Grayson?
Well, we got our answer in three little letters. S. T. B.
Ron Grayson joined Simply the Best and Highland Hell turned on Sky the
Massacre after Final Breath. The tables had turned. It was
four on one.
Until Sky bought himself a little bit of insurance. Major Force,
to be exact.
The sides are now even. In what may be the first shot in a long battle
between two great stables, Terry Sky faces off against his former co-worker
with the North American Title up for grabs.
What's On The Line?
Well,
it's unlikely that either man really wants to be known as the leader of
the ill-fated Sky Entertainment Ltd. This is going to be a fight
between two guys who blame each other for that group falling apart.
The winner gets the satisfaction of kicking the other guys ass.
There's an added bonus here for Sky. After violently breaking up
with Rick Clark years ago, Sky was the one people thought would be winning
titles. Clark has since won the North American and World Title, while
Sky has been beltless in singles competition. With Clark standing
in Grayson's corner, Sky has a chance to prove that his breaking away from
Clark actually proved positive for him.
Grayson also has to prove that joining StB has been beneficial to him.
Winning here would do that.
This might also be the first shot in a long war between Major Force and
StB. A win could swing the momentum to one team in a feud that could
go on for who knows how long.
Destroyers
Collide
Doomsday
w/ Extinct
vs
Skarzz
w/ Saul Masters
We
should have seen it coming in February.
At Slam Masters: Armageddon II, Doomsday was cost the World Title
when Skarzz, then a member of his ill-fated Seven Deadly Sins, stormed
the ring and attacked The Green Monster, giving Doomsday a disqualification
win over Mike Haggar.
Doomsday and Skarzz seemed destined to clash, but for whatever reason,
Extinct and Saul Masters did their best to keep the two of them apart.
At first, it was understandable. Doomsday was being groomed to end
Mike Haggar's World Title reign, while Saul Masters needed Skarzz to be
the marquee player in a feeble Sins group. A prolonged feud between
these two monsters at this point would have been detrimental to both sides.
The two went their separate ways over the summer, but the confrontations
once again became more frequent when Ghost singled out Doomsday for annihilation.
Months into the feud, Ghost would join the newly created Major Force, alongside
Alexander "The Grater", Saul Masters... And Skarzz. The threat of
a confrontation loomed larger than ever.
Doomsday and Skarzz have been deadlocked in this feud so far. They
have both engaged on several arena-spanning brawls, and their primal hatred
for one another got them eliminated from the BattleCrash contest at Final
Breath. Now, they will finally lock up.
Really, these are two men who are nearly impervious to pain. Skarzz
has lost many matches by disqualification, but has never been pinned.
Doomsday has only been pinned by Ghost and Mike Haggar, which is not anything
to be ashamed of. And recently, Doomsday has been showing us that
he's not just a dumb brute under Saul Master's sway. He has a mind.
How much of one, we have yet to see.
The terms "unstoppable Force" and "immovable object" have never been more
fitting. This will not be technical. There will be no wrestling,
no exchanges of psychology. This is going to be a fight between the
two most fearsome monsters the SMWA has seen since Omega Centurion.
Can Skarzz survive the power of the Armageddon? Or will Doomsday
crumble under the Major Force?
What's On The Line
What isn't? The winner gets the distinction of being the most fearful
monster in the SMWA. The loser is going to have a lot of catching
up to do.
Although Skarzz has never been pinned, he has the most to gain from this
encounter. Doomsday managed to hold the SMWA hostage for months during
the heyday of the Doomsday Hunters. His influence was felt by all,
and there are very few men he has not beaten. Skarzz is a terrifying
man, but he hasn't fought the Haggars, the Titans and the Zangiefs.
Doomsday has, and he's beaten them all.
However, quality doesn't always make you look good. Doomsday was
shown up by the much smaller Ghost months ago, and there has been some
doubt cast upon his legacy ever since. A win here re-establishes
him as the man.
It's hard to say why Doomsday has decided to talk all of a sudden.
Maybe he's looking to get away from Extinct. A victory by this independent
thinking Doomsday could spell big trouble for Extinct.
In fact, this match means a lot for the managers as well. Extinct
is a man without a stable. A lot of wrestlers have been wary of him
since his sudden firing of West Bronco and Ron Grayson and Wild Card...
And they've noticed how successful Grayson and Bronco have been since then.
If Doomsday wins, we could see a rebuilt Doomsday Hunters and a more powerful
Extinct.
Major Force is also looking regain some steam. Ghost held the World
Title for only twelve days, while Alexander "The Grater" has been taken
to the limit several times by Shadow Maxx. Even Skarzz has had troubles.
Cruiserweight Champion Johnny Proton put on an incredible effort and lasted
longer than any other man should have against Skarzz. And Terry Sky
joining is a move that has a lot of people shaking their heads. If
Skarzz can win tonight, it may take some heat off Masters and give Major
Force the shot in the arm they need to get back in to the World Title scene.
The War
of the Super Powers continues...
Gulag
Death Match
The Eastern
Powers
vs
The All-Americans
The
war has raged ever since Chad Hillsman got Gunloc to turn against his long-time
Super Powers partner, Biff Slamkovich, this summer. Zangief, Biff's
old friend, Hillsman's enemy to the day they die, has taken up arms with
Biff.
Hillsman has constantly insulted the dead mother of Zangief. Zangief
nearly choked Hillsman to death in a strap match. Commissioner McCullough
has decided that neither man will be allowed to touch each other outside
of the confines of a wrestling match. If they do, they will be suspended
without pay indefinitely. This hasn't stopped these two from using
the former Super Powers against their opponents. Biff and Gunloc
can attack Hillsman and Zangief and know they themselves will not be attacked
back.
Once the greatest tag team in the history of the SMWA, Biff Slamkovich
and Gunloc are now out for each other's blood. When Hillsman got
Gunloc to turn, a knife was lodged in Biff's back, and it's one he might
not ever get out. The usually calm Slamkovich has become more aggressive
as of late, sneak attacking the All-Americans at every turn.
The war seems to be in the stages of wearing down, but it threatens to
go forever unless there is one, final, decisive battle.
That will be the Gulag Match. The ring will be enclosed in a covered
steel cage. The only way to win is to make a member of the other
team submit or completely incapacitate him. In other words, hurt
him so bad that he gives up or cripple him.
And after all that has happened, nobody in that ring is going to give up.
What's on the Line?
This could
very well be the final battle. The Eastern Powers have been on a
roll as of late, but The All-Americans are still as dangerous as ever.
Whoever wins this battle may just win the war.
And the health of all four men is in jeopardy. When Gunloc turned
on Biff, he injured him, taking him out of action for a month. Biff
has been sneaking around like a guerrilla soldier as of late, striking
fast, hard and effectively. Zangief has tried to hang Hillsman, while
Hillsman has proved that he will stoop lower and lower to psychologically
torture Zangief. If we look back at their classic falls-count-anywhere
match at Crash Carnival '98, we know Hillsman and Zangief will stop at
nothing to injure one another.
And that's what they'll have to do.
The winners win the war... The losers lose it all.
No Count-Out,
No Disqualification
Kodiak
Marmoset
vs
Clone
If Kodiak
loses, then he will leave the SMWA
At
first, we called it an obsession. That seems to be an understatement
at this point.
Ever since Kodiak Marmoset was pinned by Clone so many months ago, he hasn't
let the issue rest . It was Kodiak's first pinfall defeat.
Kodiak has tried countless times to defeat the Doppleganger, but Clone
has avoided defeat by hook or by crook. But Kodiak will not be stopped
in his pursuit.
Johnny Proton, Kodiak's friend at the time, tried to stop him. Kodiak
snapped on him. Perhaps for good reason, as Kodiak had to wrestle
Proton before his last big match with Clone, which Clone won. Kodiak
wasn't impressed at all. He quickly turned on Proton.
The two met at Final Breath, where Proton eeked out a victory after snapping
on his own. After the match, Proton offered his friendship to Kodiak.
Kodiak just walked away, the chants of "loser" ringing through the arena.
The next Massacre, a calmer Kodiak came out. He laid out the rules
for a final encounter. If he loses, he'll leave. All he wants
is one win over Clone. It's no DQ, no countout, no rules. This
is going to be a fight to the finish.
What's On The Line?
This might seem like just another chance for Clone to pad his record, but
let's look at this closely. Clone could have used his first win over
the talented Kodiak as a springboard to bigger and better things.
Instead, he has been locked in an ages long feud. A win will get
Kodiak out of his hair and let him get on with things. And, really,
a loss will cost him. If Clone is going to capitalize on his winning
ways, he has to defeat Kodiak one final time.
It's do or die for Kodiak. If he wins, he can move on, though his
reputation has already been tarnished greatly, possibly beyond repair.
If he loses.... Well, he won't have to worry about wrestling anymore.
After that.... It's best not to think what Kodiak might do in his
current state of mind.
The Great
Light vs The Lord of Shadows
Oni
vs
Teioh
Okay,
in a nutshell...
Teioh came in to the SMWA claiming to be the Japanese God of Darkness.
Oni, then The Great Oni, disputed this claim. Teioh used his powers
in several attacks on Oni before finally defeating him at SMWA Heatwave.
Teioh would later defeat Oni once more, and at the end of that match, Oni
disappeared in a blinding flash of light. At first, we thought Teioh
had done away with Oni forever.
Then came the Light Man.
A mystical being who was seemingly composed completely of light began appearing
at SMWA events and began terrorizing Teioh. We were unsure about
the identity of this man at first. All we knew was what Teioh and
Zists called him. Gran Hikari. The Great Light.
Finally, at Thanksgiving Thunder, Gran Hikari revealed himself as Oni.
After disposing of Teioh's dark vassal, Naga Yajito, Oni threw down the
challenge to Teioh.
Since then, each side has spoken cryptically of things to come. Oni
has referred to this match as being only the beginning and of "higher powers".
Zists has also alluded to a prolonged conflict and used the term "Baki
Mono" as some sort of warning. Zists believes Oni has no right to
the power he has been given. Oni believes that Teioh must be stripped
of his power.
As tough as this has been to follow, this has been one hell of a war.
The match at New Year's Smash looks to be more than a wrestling match.
It's going to be a war, and who knows what forces will be unleashed.
What's On The Line
Title Match
It's
not the first time these two have met. In their previous two meetings,
Bronco managed to defeat the Streetfighting Stud. However, these
victories did not come without controversy. Referee Jumbo Jack Flap,
a former tag team partner of Bronco until Bronco turned on him, has been
making a few calls in the favour of West. Cody has called foul and
demanded rematches. Bronco has been more than happy to oblige.
Hopefully, Jumbo will not be assigned to this match and we can get some
kind of clear winner.
What's On The Line
SMWA World
Tag Team Title Match
Again,
this match seems to be a remnant of the Sky Entertainment Ltd - Raiders
feud. It was during that feud that Ultimate Spider and El Stingray
formed one of the most exciting teams that the SMWA has ever seen.
These two teams have clashed before in tag matches, random brawls and the
infamous Rolling Thunder match.
What's On The Line?
SMWA Cruiserweight
Title Match
One
night in Mexico...
What's On The Line?
Falls-Count-Anywhere
Grudge Match
These
two first met during a Luck of the Draw match on Saturday Night Slam Masters.
It was a vicious affair that ended in a double countout. Their next
match on Monday Night Massacre ended the same way. However, the endings
were not all that these matches had in common. They were also hardcore
to the extreme! Maxx and Grater love throwing out the rules and brawling
on the outside.
What's On The Line?
SMWA Toughman
Championship Bout
The
Scotsman's opponent will be determined in a five man battle royal to be
held during Smashed Up, our pre-game show. Whoever wins, he'll have
to face off against a man who is possibly the hardest puncher wrestling
has ever seen. The Scotsman isn't the greatest boxer in the world,
and his technique is a little sloppy, but he can deliver quick, powerful
punches that have put many men out for the count. Who's going to
stop him?
What's On The Line?
SMWA War
Titles Match
The
Raiders themselves may have dissolved after Thanksgiving Thunder, but "Titan"
Tim Redbury is still a leader of sorts. Many fans and observers consider
him to be the captain of his War Championship team. Truly, Titan
has co-ordinated Steelworks to some big six man wins.
What's On The Line
Fuerza
Dragon
Since the break-up of the Super Powers this summer, the SMWA Tag Team division
has been in a transition process. Teams like The Dream Team, Superstars
Inc. and Los Viajeros Dos Mil have fallen apart while new teams like Steelworks
and The Air Raiders have stepped up to fill the main event void.
Trailing behind are two members of the old guard.
What's on The Line?
Really, we understand so little about this
situation, it's hard to say exactly what can be gained or lost. The
obvious answer would be that Oni wants to avenge his previous loss to Teioh,
but it seems to go deeper than that.
Really, this looks to be the first battle in what both sides are saying
will be a prolonged war. And, if we listen to what is being said,
it doesn't seem as if all of the players have shown their faces.
West
Bronco (C)
vs
Cody
Simmons
This isn't a feud so much as it is a series
of matches for the belt. Bronco and Cody don't like each other, but
the beef here seems to lie mostly with how Jumbo has called things.
So, really, the major thing on the line here is the Television Title.
A win for Cody would be quite big, as he is the only wrestler in StB to
have never had some championship gold around his waist. However,
he's also going to have to wrestle in the War Titles match tonight, so
who knows how well he's going to be.
For Bronco, this is another chance to stretch this amazing tear he has
been on. Undefeated since the summer, Bronco has established himself
as one of the top young stars in the SMWA. A clean win here will
only increase his stock.
Highland
Hell (C)
vs
The Air
Raiders
Now, there's a Tag Team Championship on the line.
Stingray has held the Tag Titles before with Titan Tim and Terry Sky.
Spider is a former Cruiserweight Champion. The two complement each
other famously and have already scored one win over the Highlanders.
Highland Hell seems poised to take over the spot the Super Powers once
occupied, that of the dominant SMWA Tag Team. In spite of their loss
to the Air Raiders, they have proven time and time again that they can
destroy smaller teams, with Fuerza Dragon and Los Viajeros Dos Mil being
perfect examples.
This should be a great
Highland Hell has the chance to build a legacy here. They've been
a fairly dominant set of champions, and a win over this highly touted young
team would only add to their ever building aura. Conversely, for
the Air Raiders, it's a chance to build their own legacy. Defeating
a team that weighs twice as much as them would be a great way to start.
Johnny
Proton (C)
vs
Lantern
During the SMWA Wildcard Trios Tournament in Tijuana, Lantern put on an
incredible show, wowing the crowd in his home country. The capper
was pinning the North American Champion, Ron Grayson, in the tournament
finals to give his team the win.
Lantern has held this Title before, but he had been in a skid before Tijuana.
Johnny Proton, on the other hand, has been red hot since coming back to
the SMWA in September, recapturing the Cruiserweight Title and putting
forth some great performances against men like Kodiak Marmoset and Skarzz.
He's been called the brightest young star in the SMWA, and he's been proving
it consistently.
However, Lantern has been one of the few Cruiserweights that has taken
Proton down. As much of a heavy favourite as Proton may be, Lantern
can never be counted out.
Proton has been known for his short Cruiserweight
Title reigns. Two reigns ended when he was forced to vacate because
of injury. He's been a dominant Cruiserweight, but not exactly a
dominant Cruiserweight Champion. A win here would put him on another
roll that could only make him look better.
Really, Lantern has nothing to lose. Most people are surprised he's
on the card at all, much less getting a Title Shot. A win would shut
a lot of people of. A loss would result in a lot of "I told you so"'s.
Alexander
"The Grater"
vs
Shadow
Maxx
With Falls-Count-Anywhere rules, we don't have to worry about double countouts.
We're going to have a fight on our hands.
Shadow Maxx is the underdog, there is no question. After all, Grater
is a former World Champion and has been at the top of the SMWA for a long
time. If Maxx wins, it would catapult him up in the rankings and
maybe result in a few title shots. Also, it would let Maxx stick
it to Saul Masters one more time. Maxx still remembers his time in
the Sins and all the troubles it caused him.
Grater, on the other hand, needs this win to reassert himself. With
Skarzz tied up with Doomsday, Ghost having won the World Title and Terry
Sky recently joining, Grater has been a forgotten man. A convincing
win would make people remember that he's just as major as any of the other
forces.
The Flying
Scotsman (C)
vs
???
The Scotsman is the heavy favourite already, without even knowing who his
opponent is going to be. He's held that title for a while now and
most of his matches don't get past the first round. Anybody who beats
Scots gets the distinction of being the man who survived the Scotsman.
That's not a bad distinction.
"Titan"
Tim Redbury and Steelworks (C)
vs
Simply
the Best (Clark, Kent, and Simmons)
However, they have yet to beat a team the calibre of Simply the Best.
"Tricky" Rick Clark, "The Rebel" Jerry Kent and "Streetfighting Stud" Cody
Simmons are a perfect fit. Cody is an ace brawler. Clark is
a master technician. Kent is a classic rulebreaker. Together,
these three may be hard to stop. They might just be Simply the Best.
Clark and Titan have had their issues in the past, with Clark owning a
phenomenal won-loss record over the big man. Kent and Emerson know
each other well from their World Title feuds in the eighties. Marshall
and Cody are both a couple of young guns who love a good fight. This
match figures to have a little bit of everything.
However, an important thing to note. Cody has the TV Title match
tonight as well, so he will either have already wrestled or be getting
ready for that match. This could cost StB, as you can't have a lame
duck on board when facing off against the former Raiders.
Bragging rights for StB. They will claim to be Simply the Best 'till
the day they die, but the more gold they have, the better. Also,
Clark and Kent, main event calibre wrestlers, could use a win here to prove,
if nothing else, that they can still perform at the big shows.
Titan had been called the team general many a time, but he hasn't had to
out think a team like StB. A win here would add to Titan's status.
Also, he's in the same predicament as Clark and Kent. Titan is a
main eventer. If he wants to stay there, his team needs a win.
For Steelworks, this match could be a way of getting things going once
again. They've seemed disjointed in recent matches. A continued
run with the War Titles and a big PPV win could give them the shot in the
arm they need to succeed in the tag team division.
Finally, it should be noted that the War Titles are fairly young and, as
such, we are still waiting for a dominant team to define what these belts
are all about. Either StB or Titan & Steelworks would be good
flagbearers, and they'd get that added distinction of being one of the
finest groups in history. Why? Because they own the gold!
vs
The Philadelphia
X-Treme Machine
Fuerza Dragon. A new name and a new attitude for Los Dragones.
A name and attitude that netted them the World Tag Team Titles for a few
weeks before losing them to current champs Highland Hell. And who
did Fuerza Dragon beat for those belts?
The Philadelphia X-Treme Machine. A team which has always been plagued
by its own inconsistency, the PXM are either losing in close matches or
winning in total squashes. They tend to make things difficult for
themselves.
Fuerza Dragon holds more recent victories over the PXM, but Slash and Crash
have taken more fights historically from the Dragons. These two teams
know each other quite well and this should be a great match-up. Hardcore
insanity vs luchador antics. Classic potential.
A
place in the new order of things. The PXM have been on a major slide
since losing the Tag Titles, due in part to their inability to defeat Ghost.
Fuerza Dragon held those titles for less than a month and could use a few
wins to prove they're not the mid-card team everybody once thought that
they were. The winner of this match should be in line for Tag Team
Title matches. The loser will have to move to the back of the line
as new, exciting teams try and climb up the ladder.
