Saturday Night Slam Masters

December 26th, 1998

It's Saturday Night... Do you know where YOUR action is?
Welcome to another edition of Saturday Night Slam Masters.  We are less than one week away from SMWA New Year's Smash and things have been getting pretty tense.  The obvious point of focus is the Jack Slade/Mike Haggar situation.  Under the shadow of that massive feud, life goes on, and the wrestlers of the SMWA have other problems.
Tonight, we'll see a few of them.
The Air Raiders gear up for their New Year's Smash Tag Title match, but they'll have a tough road ahead of them with Teioh and Naga Yajito standing in their way.
Kodiak Marmoset warms up for Clone by taking on his partner, The Actor.
They'll meet in the War match at NYS, but Steelworks and Simply the Best's Jerry Kent and Rick Clark will also meet tonight in tag team action.
West Bronco looks to continue his undefeated streak against "Big Oz" Grant Redstone.
And, in our main event, "Titan" Tim Redbury faces off against StB member Ron Grayson for the North American Champion.  They haven't settled up since Thanksgiving Thunder, and with Grayson geared for a big match with Terry Sky at Smash and Titan facing StB members in the war match, this one could loom big.
    Let's get to the action.

The Air Raiders vs Teioh and Naga Yajito w/ Zists

Well, if El Stingray and Ultimate Spider need a good warmup before their clash with Highland Hell on New Year's Day, it might as well be against a would be Japanese deity and his minion.
Naga is no stranger to either of these two.  Ultimate Spider ended his Cruiserweight Title reign just days before Crash Carnival '98.  El Stingray beat Naga Yajito in the shocker final of the SMWA Toughman Tournament.  Teioh has had limited experience with these two, but that might not matter.  He'll likely be more intent on causing them harm than getting to know their styles.
This match figured to be fast paced and high impact.  It figured to be good.

Teioh and Naga came to the ring first, all dark ceremony and shadows.  They took up point and waited for the Cruiserweight sensations to arrive.
Once Stingray and Spider hit the ring, the match was on.
Teioh and Naga used their martial arts skills to confound the Raiders early on.  The ring cleared a bit and Teioh and Stingray were the official first participants.  Though Stingray was fast, Teioh's feet were faster.  Stingray was able to duck and avoid several shots but then found himself on his back when Teioh planted a thrust kick into his chin.
Teioh and Naga worked the quick tags for the next few minutes.  Wherever Stingray went, he was getting kicked, punched or chopped into oblivion.  It was hard to believe that this man was in the finals of a Toughman Tournament.  Furthermore, with all the injuries he's been recovering from, this beating couldn't be doing him any good at all.  When they weren't beating him half to death, they were choking him or locking him in nerve holds.  Stingray was suffering and suffering badly.  Finally, it looked like the carnage would end.  Naga nailed Stingray with a backdrop driver and Teioh went up top for the Dark Moon.
Somehow, Stingray got out of the way and Teioh crashed to the mat.  Painfully, he crawled into his corner and made the tag to Spider.
Spider took it right to the Dark Duo.  He jumped in on Teioh and levelled him with a springboard DDT.  Naga came in and was taken down with a spinning headscissors.  Teioh got up again but Spider tackled him and planted a few quick shots to the head.  Naga was then floored with a superkick.
Looking to bring the advantage back to his team, Zists jumped onto the apron.  He tossed Teioh his sceptre...

FLASH

Oni was here!  But nobody could see him!  The flash of light had blinded everybody in the ring... and had left the participants dazed and confused.  Not wanting to wait for anything else to happen, the ref called for the bell.

The Air Raiders and Teioh and Naga Yajito battled to a no contest in 0:6:03.
Rating: *** 1/4

Teioh grabbed a hold of the referee and knocked him out with a nerve pinch.  Spider and Stingray took their cue and got out of the ring ASAP.
Oni had struck again.  And he would strike hard at New Year's Smash.
We went to commercial and returned to Nick Jones backstage.

Jones:  Welcome to another great evening here at Saturday Night Slam Masters.  We've got a great evening of action prepared for you, including a big North American Championship rematch.  Right now, I'd like to bring in the Champ, Ron Grayson, and Monica is with him...  Ron, first of all, I'd like to ask you about joining Simply the Best.  It was something that really turned the SMWA on its ear and definitely annoyed your old "boss" Terry Sky.

Grayson:  Well, you know how it is with those CEO types.  They make all that money and then they're bald and have cancer by the time they're thirty.  He's not a hard guy to stress out.

Jones:  Be that as it may, you have to figure this situation is pretty emotionally tense.

Grayson:  Why?  So Terry poked Rick's eye out.  Hell, I worked with Terry for months, but Rick didn't hold that against me when I joined StB.  I think Terry takes that whole thing too seriously.

Jones:  Wait a second.  You think that just because Rick likes you that he'd forgive Terry?

Grayson:  Well, he doesn't want to, and I don't want him to, but I think he's seen the whole situation pretty clearly and has an idea of where to go with things.  I don't think they'll make up, though.

Jones:  ....You're being totally serious, aren't you?

Grayson:  What, do you think they'll make up?

Jones:  ....

Grayson:  ....

Monica:  I don't think he wants to talk anymore.

Jones:  No Monica, I... Never mind.  What are you expecting at New Year's Smash.

Monica:  I think Mike Haggar will show.

Grayson:  He was talking to me, hon.

Monica:  Oh.

Grayson:  Adorable, isn't she?  Anyway, I won't say Terry Sky isn't talented, because that wouldn't be nice and just isn't true.  He's good.  But he isn't.... Monica?

Monica:  No, I'm not Terry Sky....

Grayson:  Say the line.

Monica:  The line...

Grayson:  Say Simply the Best.

Monica:  Simply the Best.

Grayson:  And if you're not Simply the Best, you don't dare beat the Daredevil.

Jones:  You two have this Abbott and Pamela Lee thing going for you, you know.  Anyway, any quick words for your opponent tonight, "Titan" Tim Redbury?

Grayson:  Sure.  Titan, I'm going to beat you tonight.  I've outsmarted you before and I can do it again.  Then, my StBers are going to take those War Titles from the waists of you and Steelworks at New Year's Smash.  Add to that the fact that Clark and Kent are going to beat the 'Works tonight, and it'll be a fairly humiliating week for you.

Jones:  Ron Grayson.... And Monica.  Back to you, John.

Kodiak Marmoset vs The Actor

They've met numerous times in what has developed into the Kodiak Marmoset Obsession.  As Clone's closest companion, The Actor has taken quite a few bumps in this feud and, really, if he and Clone hadn't attacked Kodiak after their match at Back Street Brawl, Kodiak's career might not have been on such a skid recently.  It was that attack that got Clone involved.
So, this match might just take on an Actor screwed Kodiak feel.  Or maybe not.

Surprisingly, The Actor chose not to dress like Kodiak.  He dressed up like Clone dressing up like Kodiak.  An interesting costume, indeed.
Also surprising - The Actor was the aggressor at the start.  And within a few minutes, he had Kodiak locked in the Take-Four!  Kodiak was able to break the hold, but only after several moments of excruciating pain.
Kodiak wasn't exactly ready to let The Actor get away with causing him pain.  He took The Actor down and started in with a few submission holds of his own.  A Texas Cloverleaf, a  Ziplock, an Octopus lock...  This was less a fight than a wrestling match.
Kodiak finally ended what was turning into a pretty good back and forth wrestling match.  He dropped The Actor with a DDT and then jumped off with a Vaderbomb splash.  That was all.

Kodiak Marmoset pinned The Actor after the Vaderbomb in 0:07:11.
Rating: **** 1/4

A match which was surprising, but but surprisingly good.
Of course, no Kodiak match could be complete without Clone making his presence known in one way or the other.  Clone came down to ringside to accompany his tag team partner into the back, maybe hoping Kodiak wouldn't notice.  Kodiak did.  As soon as he saw Clone, Kodiak charged after him and the race carried on into the back.
Just the way that encounter played out was really.... Weird.
Anyway, we took a commercial and then returned for a little more Cruiserweight action.

Teknos vs The California Kid

In spite of a mini slump, Teknos is still one of the best Cruiserweights that the SMWA has to offer.  A former Cruiserweight Champion, he would certainly prove a daunting opponent for The California Kid, who hasn't picked up a victory since his debut match against Lovechild.  Still, the Kid has shown some talent for putting on good matches, if not winning.  This would be exciting, if nothing else.

These two didn't waste any time in starting this thing off.  After a flurry of dropkicks and other quick moves, Teknos managed to catch Cal in the corner with a swinging DDT which rung the surfer's bell.  Teknos quickly went up top and waited for the Kid to get up before hitting him with a textbook top rope Frankensteiner.  The Kid fell victim to several more lucha moves and was almost pinned after a ropeflip moonsault.  Teknos then went up top for another moonsault, but The Kid hit him from behind and Teknos fell crotch first onto the top turnbuckle.  The Kid took advantage and climbed onto the buckles.  Wrapping his legs around Teknos' head, he hit a beautiful reverse hurricanrana.  The Kid almost had the win right there.
So much for feeling your opponent out.
The pace stayed the same for most of the rest of the match, each man hitting some great spots but neither man gaining the advantage.  Teknos floored Cal with a series of three rolling kicks.  The Kid hit Teknos with an inverted atomic drop and followed up with a mid ring moonsault for a near fall.  The pace kept on for minutes until the match degenerated into a brawl.  The Kid took Teknos down with a strong enzuigiri kick and then followed up with a beautiful shooting star press.
    1...
        2...
3NO!!! KICKOUT!!! Wow, that would have been humiliating.
The Kid tossed Teknos into the ropes and went for a Frankensteiner.  Teknos stopped, grabbed the Kid and managed to drop him with a spinning power bomb.  The Kid staggered back up before being spiked with a DDT.  Looking to end it, Teknos went up top for the Teknospinner.  He hit and that was it.

Teknos pinned The California Kid with the Teknospinner in 0:11:10.
Rating: *** 1/2

A few dicey moments for the former Cruiserweight Champion of the World, but he pulled it off.  And the Kid showed that, while he may act completely ridiculous, he is still able to put on a good match.  He might have a future here.

We went to commercials and returned to see the son of a legend.

"Bonecracker" Martin Riley vs Lovechild

Riley looked good in his debut match against Grant Redstone last week, in spite of taking the loss.  While Lovechild may not be on Redstone's level, he is an accomplished veteran and, in spite of his antics, could very well walk away with an upset.  Let's not forget, this is only Riley's second pro match.
Both men are exceptionally gifted in the art of mat wrestling.  It wasn't going to be fast, but it would be interesting.

The match started with a basic exchange of holds.  Riley locked Lovechild into a headlock, which was reversed into a hammerlock.  Lovechild used a drop toe hold to take Riley down and then floated over for another headlock.  Riley reversed it into a hammerlock.
The technical marathon was broken when Lovechild got behind Riley and managed to hit a backdrop driver, setting Riley up for a scorpion deathlock.  Riley eventually made it to the ropes, but he wasn't out of the woods yet.  Lovechild kept up the assault, mixing mat holds with the occasional high impact slam.  Riley nearly stole it a couple of times, once with a cradle suplex, another time with a Kata Hajime, which was broken when Lovechild was in the ropes.  But Lovechild dominated and, by the end of the day, Riley had taken his second loss in the SMWA.

Lovechild pinned Martin Riley after a backdrop driver in 0:10:16.
Rating: * 1/2

Riley's trying, but he needs a bit more seasoning.  Lovechild was somebody that he could have beat.  Lovechild had other ideas.
It'll be interesting to see how the son of a legend rebounds from a two match losing skid.
After a couple of commercials, we returned to Nick Jones, who had another interview for us in the back.

Jones:  Welcome back to Saturday Night Slam Masters.  We've still got some big matches coming up tonight, including Steelworks vs Simply the Best, our Luck of the Draw match and the North American Title being contested in our main event.  We're also going to see this man in action a little later on as he defends the Television Title against Grant Redstone.  I'm talking about West Bronco.  Thanks for joining us, West.

Bronco:  Not a problem, Nick.

Jones:  Well, West, before I can ask you about anything else, I've got to mention this incredible streak you've been on.  You have been undefeated in singles action since August of this year, and now you're the reigning Television champion.  All this after some people thought your career was dead.  How did you managed to do it all?

Bronco:  Well, Jones, I didn't listen to those people who thought my career was dead, as you said.  Fact is, I'm the only person who's going to decide if my career is dead or not, and that's that.  As for being undefeated, it's not something I've really thought much about, ta be honest.  I went out, I wrestled and I won.  That's what any good wrestler tries to do, so I guess by that count, I'm a good wrestler.  The TV Title adds something to it, but don't think that I'm just going to be happy with this.  It's an honour to be TV champ, but it's something I earned, and I'm always ready to earn a lot more.

Jones:  Let's talk about that TV title for a second.  Since you've become champ, you're still undefeated, but you've had some tougher matches.  I'm talking about Dragon de Hielo and BC-2000 specifically, two guys who ended your winning streak, if not your undefeated streak.

Bronco:  Jones, I know I didn't win the first encounters with those boys, but I did win in the end.  Those are two tough men, small, but tough, and there's no shame in them taking me to the limit.  It makes sense, though, that when you get this title, the matches are going to be harder, cause the payoff is so much bigger.

Jones:  And the hard matches keep on coming, with a TV Title defence against Grant Redstone tonight and then a big rematch at New Year's Smash with StB member Cody Simmons.

Bronco:  Hell, neither of those matches'll be easy.  Redstone's a big, bad man who can suplex you right out of your boots.  But I know a little about wrestling too, and I know I can brawl with that guy, so he's going to be in for a fight tonight.  Now, as for Cody, I've already proven myself to him before.  He can yipp all he wants about Thanksgiving Thunder, but he wasn't going anywhere after I planted him in the middle of the ring.  He wants another shot, he's got it, that's the kind of man that I am.  New Year's Smash, Simmons, you can joke around and sing all the songs you want.  I pin you again, it aint gonna make no difference.  You ride the Bronco, Cody, and you're gonna get bucked up!!!

Jones:  Thanks for your time, West.  Some strong words from the Television champion, who'll be in action later tonight.  Back to you, John.

"The All-American" Chad Hillsman vs Slash Battle

Two halves of two of the strongest teams in the SMWA face off in singles action tonight.  The PXM has been a little bit lost since being booted from the Doomsday Hunters, but as they showed Fuerza Dragon this Monday, they are still quite capable of beating anybody.  Chad Hillsman and Gunloc are getting set to face off against the Eastern Powers and StB this Monday, and the Gulag Death match at New Year's Smash has to be in the back of Chad Hillsman's mind tonight.  If he doesn't concentrate on Slash Battle, he will lose.

This match, not surprisingly, turned into a battle of power early on.  Each man took turns flattening the other with clotheslines and stiff blows.  Hillsman finally pulled ahead when he kicked Battle hard in the stomach and rolled him in a jack-knife power bomb for an early near fall.  The All-American pressed on, continuing to use his power, hitting Slash with several powerslams and lariats.  To mix things up, Chad even went up to for a flying karate chop, which felled the Philadelphia native.  Going to the well once more, Hillsman climbed up top.
Battle shook the ropes and Chad fell on top of the turnbuckle.  Battle wasted no time in hooking Chad up and taking him off of the turnbuckle with a superplex for the near fall.
Battle was all over Chad from that point on.  Hillsman was able to mount some offence in the form of a few kicks and punches and a textbook snap suplex, but Slash wouldn't stay down long enough for Chad to recover.  A few spinning lariats had Chad down for a VERY close two and three-quarters.  A running powerslam and it looked like it was over.
    Two count!
Slash pressed on, and Chad looked to be in bad shape.  Battle hit a DDT and then picked up Hillsman for a launch slam.  Chad had the presence of mind to put his hands out in front of him before he landed, lessening the impact on his face, but he was still hurt.  Battle decided it was time to end it.  He lifted Hillsman up into powerslam position and readied for the Post Breaker.
Hillsman got a thumb in Battle's eye and Slash dropped him.  Quickly, Chad booted Battle in the stomach and lifted him up into a fireman's carry.  Chad began to spin around and then he dropped Battle in the Stars & Bar's DVD.  That was all she wrote.

Chad Hillsman pinned Slash Battle with the Stars and Bars in 0:10:44.
Rating: *** 1/4

Not a bad match for two powerhouses.  Hillsman's edge in singles experience - and his masterful ability to cheat - pulled him through in the end.
We went to commercial and returned for some luchadors!

Lantern vs Quasar

Both of these men came up fairly big in their home country of Mexico during the SMWA's Wildcard Trios Tournament.  Quasar scored a shocking pin over SMWA Toughman Champion the Flying Scotsman, while Lantern's team won the whole tournament when Lantern successfully pinned North American Champion Ron Grayson in the finals.  The question is, would this success carry over the border, and for whom?
Lantern needs this win going into New Year's Smash and his Cruiserweight Title match against Johnny Proton.  A win for Quasar could help get his career rolling again.

The contest started with a typical luchador exchange of spinning headscissors, ranas and other fast moves.  It was a battle Lantern took a slight edge in.  Finally, he actually got Quasar in trouble, flooring him with several vicious clotheslines.  One knocked Quasar over the top ropes, and Lantern was quick to follow up with an Asai moonsault.
Quasar was overmatched and he knew it.  He went for several desperation moves, but most of them ended in disaster.  Lantern could afford to use this match as a showcase, and he made Quasar look foolish.  A top rope DDT, a springboard moonsault, a flying rana... Quasar was getting schooled badly.  His best offence came when he floored Lantern with a leg lariat that was quickly followed up with a DDT.  Still, it wasn't enough.  Quasar went for another big move, his trademark frog splash, and he missed.  Lantern got behind him, delivered a back suplex and held on with a bridge for the win.

Lantern pinned Quasar after a bridging back suplex in 0:11:00.
Rating: * 3/4

Lantern looked G-R-E-A-T this match.  And he'll have to look that good at New Year's Smash if he wants to have any chance of defeating Johnny Proton for that Cruiserweight belt.
Another commercial would take us to a war between two great teams.

Simply the Best vs Steelworks

In less than one week, Rick Clark and Jerry Kent will face off on the other side of the ring against Andrew Marshall and Rod Emerson as Steelworks and "Titan" Tim Redbury defend their War Titles against Simply the Best.  Tonight would be a good chance for each team to get to know each other.
And it would be another match for Rod Emerson and Jerry Kent, who had a big feud over the World Title in the eighties during Kent's final reign.  Emerson always came up short and was never able to win any SMWA singles gold.  He'd love nothing more than to pin Kent tonight.
Power vs Trickery.  This would be interesting.

Just for nostalgia's sake, Kent and Emerson started off this encounter.  It was a standard exchange between a big man and a smaller man.  Kent tried to wear Iron Rod down, while Emerson preferred to toss the smaller Kent around and show him just who would win lock ups and tests of strength.  Kent managed to get in a couple of bodyslams, and then he took some time to taunt.  Big mistake.  Emerson floored him with a lariat and then tagged in the Jackhammer.
Marshall kept up the power and wore Kent down with a few submission holds, including a double chicken wing that looked to tear Kent's arms clean off.  However, he made a mistake in attempting the De-Facer far too early.  Kent slid down his back and, out of the ref's view, kicked Marshall below the belt.  Jackhammer crumbled to the ground as Kent tagged out to Tricky.
Clark and Kent showed superior teamwork on Marshall for the next few minutes, combining their speed and skill to keep the big man off balance.  Clark slapped Emerson, who charged the ring but was held up by the referee.  During the distraction, Clark locked Marshall in a surfboard while Kent delivered kicks to Marshall's sternum.  The ref turned around, barely missing the action.  Clark let go and floored Marshall with a superkick.  Running off of the ropes, he went for a flying cross body press.
Marshall caught him and powerslammed him to the mat.  Both men inched over to their corners.  Clark made the tag and Kent stormed into the ring.  He slugged Emerson before Marshall could make the tag out, leading to another distraction and another StB double team.  Marshall was in big trouble.
Kent kept wrestling and hit Marshall with a beautiful vertical suplex to take him down.  He went for another one, but Marshall blocked it.  Reversing the hold, he floored Kent with a JACKHAMMER!!!  Slowly, Marshall made it to his corner.
Emerson was tagged in, and it all broke loose.
Kent went down first to a massive lariat.  Clark was on the ring apron and Emerson took him down too.  Kent got up and charged at Emerson, but received a powerslam for his efforts.  Emerson made the cover.  Two count.
Marshall was up and Steelworks signalled the Dream Killer.  Emerson dove at Kent's feet from behind while Marshall went for a reverse clothesline from the front.  Unfortunately, Kent moved and Steelworks collided in the middle of the ring.   Kent tagged out to Clark, who was now on the apron.  Clark knocked Marshall over the top rope while Kent floored Emerson with a Russian legsweep.
With Marshall outside, StB had nobody to stop them.  Clark picked up Emerson in the Sky-Driver while Kent was on the second turnbuckle.  Jumping off, Kent helped Clark hit the Best Driver and that got StB the win.

Simply the Best defeated Steelworks when Clark pinned Emerson after the Best Driver in 0:14:00.
Rating: *** 3/4

StB pulled off a big win here tonight, in part because of that one miscommunication by Steelworks.  Marshall and Emerson looked quite frustrated on their way back to the dressing room, and neither man was too happy with the result.  Hopefully, their teamwork will be better for New Year's Smash.
    Commercials, then a title match.

SMWA Television Title Match
West Bronco (C) vs "Big Oz" Grant Redstone

Well, Bronco pretty much said all that needed to be said about this match in his interview.  Redstone can suplex you from anywhere he wants and is stronger, but West Bronco is definitely the better brawler of the two.  This didn't figure to be too pretty.

Redstone started off by simply overpowering Bronco.  Mere minutes in, West was turned inside out by a vicious release Tiger suplex.  As he got up, Redstone floored him with several tackles, leftovers from his days as an Aussie rules football player, no doubt.  Redstone hit a Northern Lights suplex for a near fall early on.
Bronco was being tossed like a rag doll, but he could still take advantage of a mistake when it presented itself.  Redstone ducked his head far too early in a backdrop attempt and West capitalized with a swinging neckbreaker.  Redstone was then knocked outside, where Bronco proceeded to thrash him against the guardrail, the steps, the ringpost and anything else that was hard enough to hurt.  Back in the ring, Bronco hit Redstone with a little of his own medicine, taking him down with a Dragon suplex for a near fall.
The match was developing a pretty good pace.  Mostly, it was Redstone hitting his suplexes and Cody brawling, but both men showed a propensity to use the other's attacks.
Around nine minutes in, the crowd started to boo as somebody made their way from the back.
    Cody Simmons.
Bronco lost his focus on Redstone for a moment and turned to confront Cody outside of the ring.  As the two jawed, Redstone got up and knocked Bronco over the top ropes with a vicious lariat.  Bronco was slow to get up on the outside, and that served Redstone well, as he came off of the apron with an axhandle.  Looking to lay some major hurt on Bronco, Redstone hooked him up in the Redstone suplex.  Redstone pitched his opponent onto the announcer's table, breaking it in half.
Redstone picked Bronco up and brought him back into the ring, but Cody was trying to get Big Oz's attention.  Redstone turned and listened, and he liked what he heard.  Picking Bronco up, Redstone held him for a vicious right hook from Cody.
Bronco ducked and the punch hit Cody right in the face.  Seeing what he had done, Simmons booted out of that ring as quickly as possible.  With Big Oz staggered, Bronco went behind him and rolled him up in a cradle for the win.

West Bronco pinned Grant Redstone after a rolling reverse cradle in 0:10:35.
Rating: ** 1/4
(West Bronco retained the SMWA Television Title.)

Bronco had won the match with a little bit of help from the man he'd be facing in less than a week.  However, he wasn't going to spend time celebrating.  Redstone was groggy, but he wasn't down and he was likely to snap on Bronco if he stuck around.  West grabbed the TV Title and went to the back.
Redstone got up to his feet.  If steam could actually come out of your ears, Redstone would be going off like Old Faithful.  He tried to get at the referee, but the ref knew better.  He got outside and left Redstone to stew in the middle of the ring.
Redstone was kicking the bottom ring ropes as we went to commercial.  We came back in time for the Saturday Night Tradition....

The SMWA Luck of the Draw Match

The names of two random wrestlers were selected last night, and both of the combatants were here tonight to face off with one another.  After a great brawl last week, we'd have to see what these two would bring to this match.
This would be a match refereed by "Jumbo" Jack Flap, so who knows what is going to happen.
We had already seen our first opponent wrestle tonight.  Lovechild, fresh off of his victory against Martin Riley, was ready.  This would be a big match for the horny cruiserweight.  It could even be bigger, depending on who his opponent was.
Well, we had also seen his opponent tonight.  In the last match, in fact.  However, it wasn't one of the two wrestlers.   Cody Simmons made his way down to the ring.
If there have ever been two hornier men in one ring, I've never seen it.
Of course, Cody wasn't going to compare notes with Lovechild.   He was going to wrestle him.
Jumbo Jack was about to signal for the bell when Cody got up in his face.  Obviously, Cody wasn't too pleased with the referee for this match, as Jumbo has been costing StB a few decisions here and there and some believe that he screwed Cody out of the TV Title at Thanksgiving Thunder.  Jumbo was more than up for the argument, and until it ended, the match could not begin.
The crowd buzzed as somebody made his way down the aisle.  Sporting a nice shiner from where Cody punched him earlier, Grant Redstone was going to interject himself in this argument.  He had a steel chair.
Redstone climbed into the ring and got behind Cody, who had no idea that he was there.  The next thing we heard was a sickening thud, as Redstone slammed the chair into Cody's back.  Cody hit the mat and Redstone gave him a quick kick to the ribs before he left the ring.
And as soon as Redstone left, JUMBO RANG THE BELL!!!
Lovechild picked Cody up and hit him with a backdrop driver.  Seconds into the match, he grabbed Cody and locked on the LOVE HUG!!!  Cody was going fast!  He could barely move in the clutches of Lovechild, but he would not give up.  That's one of the trademarks of this kid - an uncanny ability to take all sorts of punishment.  After about a minute, Lovechild lost interest in the hold and let go.  He picked Cody up and took him down with a DDT.  He went for a cover.
    1...
        2...
        KICKOUT!!!  Close one.
Lovechild got up and bounced into the ropes.  Cody managed to catch him with a big uppercut, nearly flipping Lovechild onto his head.  With Lovechild down, Cody decided he'd give old Jumbo a good talking to.
Actually, it wasn't really a good talking to.  It was quite insulting and ended with Cody taking a swing at Jumbo.  Jumbo moved away from the punch and merely shoved Cody.  Lovechild was up behind him and locked him into a Dragon suplex.  Jumbo made the count.
    123!
    FAST COUNT!!!

Lovechild pinned Cody Simmons after a dragon suplex in 0:02:54.
Rating: ** 1/4

Jumbo didn't even bother to raise Lovechild's hand.  He just left the ring and made his way to the back.   Lovechild tried to follow, but a not-ready-to-be-pinned Cody got up from behind him and nailed him with the Dead End combo.  Cody then charged to the back in search of Jumbo.
We charged to commercials, and when we returned, we were in search of our...

Titan's popularity is staggering and a bit confusing.  He's not the greatest talker, but he is a damn impressive big wrestler.  They don't come any bigger, and very few are better.  He's been walking his own path since breaking from Terry Sky this summer and is now regarded the "General" of his War Titles team.  And few can argue.  Tonight, he'd have a chance to reclaim what was stolen from him at Thanksgiving Thunder.

******** Cue StB's Asshole Theme ********

RA:  His opponent...  Being led to the ring by the lovely Monica and representing Simply the Best.... Hailing from Ithaca, New York...  Weighing in at two hundred and seven pounds....  The SMWA North American Champion....  "DAREDEVIL"! RON! GRAYSON!

Dumber and Oh-My-God-She's-Dumb came to the ring.  With a little help from Monica at Thanksgiving Thunder, Grayson was able to fell the Titan and take his North American Title at Thanksgiving Thunder.  It wasn't a clean win, but Grayson had a Title around his waist.
But would it be there by the end of the night?
    The bell rang...

Grayson foolishly tried to brawl with Titan early on.  Titan really didn't feel any of the punches, but he did a good job no selling and scaring Grayson out of his boots.  One chop by Titan took Grayson down.  Grayson quickly scurried outside of the ring to conference with Monica.
We really have to get a camera with a mic near those two someday.  I'll bet some of those conversations are so...
    Ahem, enough of that.
Grayson took the ten count... and then took it again... and then took it again!  He was either trying to frustrate Titan on contemplating losing the title by countout.  Finally, Grayson did get back into the ring, where he ended up pressed nearly nine feet in the air by Titan.
Maybe Grayson should have walked out.
Titan was really all over this match.  Grayson couldn't get a move in edgewise, and if he did, nothing much happened.  Titan just pressed on.  Six minutes in, Titan gave the sign for the Claw Slam.  He locked the Claw on Grayson's face, picked him up and slammed him onto the mat.  The cover...
    1...
        2....
MONICA IS ON TOP OF TITAN!!!  The ref calls for the bell.

Titan Tim Redbury defeated Ron Grayson by disqualification in 0:06:29.

(Ron Grayson retained the SMWA North American Title.)

Titan reached behind him and grabbed Monica by the collar of her outfit.  He plucked her off his back like he was picking a flower from a garden.... or something less sissy sounding.  He brought Monica to eye level for a second, and then put her down.  Monica, grateful, began to show off her "femininity" to Titan.  Titan didn't mind looking, but he wasn't interested.
In terms of distractions, it was a great one.  Simply the Best ran into the ring and proceeded to beat down Titan.  It had been a setup, an attempt to wear Titan down for the War Titles match in one week.
Did we mention Steelworks were still in the building?
Emerson and Marshall, still bitter over their loss earlier in the evening, charged into the ring and got StB off of Titan.  As Grayson and Crew made it back to the dressing room, Steelworks and Titan stood proud in the ring.
    We ended our show there.
