Saturday Night Slam Masters 10/31/98

Welcome to a special Halloween edition of Saturday Night Slam Masters!
In keeping with the spirit of the season, we have some terrifyingly good matches for you, including Doomsday vs "Titan" Tim Redbury for the North American Title, Kodiak Marmoset vs Teknos for the Cruiserweight Title, El Stingray vs The Flying Scotsman for the Toughman Title and Clone vs Zangief for the Television Title.
And to cap it off, our Luck of the Draw Match will also feature a random gimmick.
And our main event will be a first blood match with Major Force taking on the Philadelphia X-Treme Machine!  It might not go long, but it should be vicious.

    Let's get to the action.

The California Kid vs Ultimate Spider

A couple of weeks ago, newcomer The California Kid and former Cruiserweight Champion Ultimate Spider fought to a double count-out.  Tonight would be the rematch.

The Kid took the early advantage, using his size to his advantage over the much smaller Spider.  Spider didn't get dominated long, however.  He used his speed to take control of the Kid, but ended up on the mat when a springboard DDT was countered by the Kid into a Northern Lights suplex.
Spider wouldn't stay down long.  The Kid had no counter for the incredible speed he was up against. A spinning back fist evened the score, nearly knocking Spider out, but Spider again didn't stay down long.
Kid went up top to hit a 450 splash but he hit nothing but mat.  Spider climbed onto the apron and jumped at the Kid with a springboard shoulderblock.  The move sent the Kid reeling and Spider quickly rolled him up for the win.

Ultimate Spider pinned The California Kid after a springboard shoulderblock in 0:13:54.

Teioh w/ Zists vs BC-2000

Martial arts vs lucha style.  Teioh is still undefeated, while BC-2000 has wrestled excellently since Los Viajeros Dos Mil dissolved.

Teioh started the match by knocking BC-2000 around with stiff martial arts kicks and a few high flying moves here and there.  BC, still adjusting to life as a singles wrestler, tried to go for the corner early in the match.  When he realized he was alone...well, he started wrestling a bit better.
A flying forearm leveled Teioh.  BC kept up his lucha style and nearly took the match with a beautiful flying bulldog.  He then planted Teioh on the top rope and took him down with a textbook belly-to-back superplex.
Somehow, when Teioh hit the mat, he rolled through the move and, when BC-2000 charged him, he hit a Toka leg trip on BC.  That evened the match up.
The action spilled outside and each man took turns hitting high spots outside the ring.  Teioh got the advantage when BC-2000 missed a Super Quebrada.
A groggy Viajero tried to hit a Frankensteiner in the ring, but Teioh merely side stepped.  He then hit an Ipponzei and finished BC-2000 of with the Dark Moon.

Teioh pinned BC-2000 with the Dark Moon in 0:07:53.
Rating: ** 3/4

The lights went out and Teioh began to walk towards the dressing room.  But from the back came a figure.  The same sort of figure we've seen for weeks.  A man made of light.  He walked right up the aisle and stood nose to nose with Teioh.
It was light versus dark in the middle of the aisle.  A fight seemed inevitable.  Teioh rared back to kick the figure, but the "light man" exploded in a blinding flash.  And just like that, he was gone.

What on Earth is going on???

CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Kodiak Marmoset (c) vs Teknos

Kodiak has been on a losing streak, has been unsure of himself and has given in to fits of rage.  Teknos has put forth some incredible efforts and is one of the hottest wrestlers in the SMWA today.
In other words, if there was ever a time where Kodiak's Cruiserweight Title reign was in jeopardy, it would be tonight.

Kodiak came to the ring relatively composed at the start of this match.  He and Teknos put on a brilliant display of counters and mat work.  Neither man was able to gain any sort of clear advantage until the action spilled outside and Kodiak hit a DDT on the floor.  Rolling Teknos inside, Kodiak hit a standing moonsault and went for the pin.
    Two count.
Kodiak kept laying on the power, trying to keep Teknos out of the air.  It then looked like he would try to finish Teknos off, as a brawl started.  And a brawl always led to the Finisher.
Kodiak rared back and let the kick go.
Teknos ducked.  And suddenly, Kodiak found himself on the recieving end of a spinning leg lariat.  Teknos took control.  Mixing high-flying moves with a little power of his own, Teknos had Kodiak in trouble.  A Doctor Bomb nearly did him in.  Teknos attempted a second one, but was backdropped out of the ring.
Upon re-entering, Kodiak grabbed Teknos and hooked him in a Cradle suplex.  But before Kodiak could take him over, Teknos kicked his knee out, causing him to crash right on top of Kodiak.  The ref made the count.

TEKNOS!!! TEKNOS!!!  TEKNOS HAS DERAILED THE KODIAK EXPRESS!!!
Finally, the Cruiserweight Title has changed hands as its most dominant holder ever finally fell.
Teknos was handed the belt and he held it high in the air for all to see.
Even Kodiak saw it.  But he wasn't about to believe it.
Kodiak left the ring and rushed back in with a chair.  He whacked Teknos in the back of the head, knocking him out.  Kodiak continued the beating, smashing Teknos time after time and driving the chair right into his knee.  Kodiak was screaming and cursing.  He had finally lost it.
He climbed the top rope, chair in hand.  It looked like he was going to drive the chair right through Teknos.  But suddenly, Kodiak's face was enveloped by a huge hand.
    It was "Titan" Tim Redbury!!!
The Raiders leader had come to the ring with the other Raiders to help their fallen comrade.
Titan held Kodiak up for all to see and then planted him with the Claw Slam.  He then kicked Kodiak out of the ring and tended to his fallen teammate.
The other Raiders stood fast at ringside, forcing Kodiak back into the locker room.
We have a new Cruiserweight Champion...but will he even be able to defend after tonight?

The Raiders vs Sky Entertainment Ltd.
Steelworks vs Judgement & Kenji Hashimuto

The newly formed tandem of Steelworks would again face off against Sky Entertainment Ltd.  Kenji Hashimuto and Judgement weren't going to be pushovers, though.  Judgement had taken Marshall to the limit in a great match a few weeks ago, while Kenji has improved with each outing.

Hashimuto dominated the two Steelworkers early on with his martial arts tactics.  Finally, however, Steelworks got on the board with some beautiful double teaming, including a vicious double lariat that nearly took Hashimuto's head off.  Marshall hit the De-Facer early, but Judgement broke the pin.
Still, Steelworks controlled most of the rest of the match.  Judgement had limited time in the ring, Kenji taking the brunt of the punishment.  Marshall finally looked to put the match away, locking Hashimuto in a double chickenwing submission hold.
Hashimuto struggled and screamed and was about to give up...when Lantern smashed Marshall over the back with a chair.
The ref called for the bell.

Steelworks defeated Sky Entertainment Ltd. (Judgement and Kenji Hashimuto) when Emerson defeated Judgement by disqualification in 0:10:09.
Rating: * 1/4

Emerson rushed into the ring and clocked Lantern as the rest of the Raiders came to ringside.  Lantern, Judgement and Hashimuto escaped to the outside.  Ron Grayson came out to ringside and started yelling at Lantern again.  The luchador covered his ears and went into the back.  Grayson did not look too happy.

Akira Wan-Pai vs Lovechild

Akira's first big singles test since returning to the SMWA at Back Street Brawl would be tonight against Lovechild.  Martial Arts discipline vs Power & Sex Appeal!!!  Interesting match.

Lovechild went on the offensive early in this bout, not wanting Akira to get any sort of edge.  If Akira was standing and able to punch and kick, Lovechild had no chance.  With Akira in his clutches, it was a different story.  Lovechild kept pouring on the power and locking on submission holds, not giving Akira any chance to mount an offense.
Lovechild kept it up, nearly pinning Akira after a big press slam.  He whipped Deathblow to the corner and charged in head first.
Akira rebounded with his pattented Retankai double kick and nearly pinned Lovechild right there.  A Toka dropped Lovechild on his head once more.  Akira was using his martial arts, and Lovechild wasn't going to last much longer.
Akira kept up the assault but missed a thrust kick near the ropes, causing him to straddle the ropes.  Lovechild picked Akira up and hit a running powerslam for a near fall.  Looking to put Akira out, Lovechild locked on the Love Hug...which Akira somehow managed to counter into a Kata Hajime!!!  Akira waited until Lovechild was almost out before releasing him.  As the Horny One rose to his feet, Akira hit the Tetzuzanko.  That was it.

Akira Wan-Pai pinned Lovechild with the Tetzuzanko in 0:12:28.
Rating: **** 1/4

Akira got to his feet and started to leave the ring.  He was greeted in the aisle by Naga Yajito.
The two stood face to face in the aisle, Akira not too sure what to make of the situation.  All of a sudden, blackness filled the arena.  The same kind of blackness that Teioh is known for.  When the dark lifted, Naga was gone and Akira was standing in the aisle alone!!!
    WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!

The Raiders vs Sky Entertainment Ltd.
SMWA Toughman Title Bout
El Stingray (c) vs The Flying Scotsman

If it weren't for an injury, The Scotsman would probably have taken the Toughman Tournament.  As it was, a lucky El Stingray made his way to the finals and won his first match.  But this would be his first defense.
It was also a Raiders vs Sky Entertainment match.  And let's not forget that Stingray and his tag team partner Ultimate Spider defeated the other members of Highland Hell this Monday.
    This could be interesting.

    Round 1
Scotsman kept Stingray rocking with punches all round but was unable to knock him down!  It was fairly obvious that Scotsman had the advantage in power, but Stingray used his speed to his advantage.  In what ended up being a fairly even first round, Scotsman took a 20-15 lead.
Stingray was holding his own against a seasoned brawler.  Not bad.

    Round 2
Seven seconds in to this round, Scotsman hit Stingray with a big uppercut that took him off his feet and Stingray wasn't the same.  Scotsman hit a couple of single leg takedowns with little resistance.  The Scotsman kept hammering and hammering, with Stingray going down again at the halfway mark.  Struggling to his feet, Stingray was almost out.  But he would not go down.  He took it and took it and would not go down.  Until the fifty nine second mark.  That was three knockdowns in one minute.  That would be all.

The Flying Scotsman defeated El Stingray by second round technical knockout at 00:59.
Rating: ** 3/4
(The Flying Scotsman won the SMWA Toughman Championship.)

SMWA Television Title Match
Zangief (c) vs Clone w/ The Actor

Shockingly, this wasn't as much of a mismatch as people thought it would be.
Clone came ready to go.  He managed to counter most of Zangief's power moves early on and we saw some great wrestling between these two.  Unbelievable!!!
Zangief did regain the edge, however.  He was just too big and too powerful for Clone to be able to keep down for long.  Zangief started laying on the power and then hit his newest move, the Spinning Piledriver.  And that looked to be all.
    1...
    2...
NO!!! Clone kicked out!!! WOW!!!  This had the makings of a match.
Zangief climbed up to the top rope and dove off with a huge elbowdrop.  Clone rolled out of the way and began pouring on the offense.  There was no way he was going to let Zangief hit something like the Spinning Piledriver again.
Zangief did regain the offense briefly with a spinning lariat, but then the match became VERY equal.  The two wrestlers exchanged moves, Clone copying Zangief suplex for suplex.  He wanted the TV Title badly.
Clone hit a belly-to-belly suplex that planted Zangief on his head.  He then backed up into the corner and gave a signal.  Kodiak Marmoset's signal!  The signal for the FINISHER!!!
Clone connected with the big superkick and went for the pin.
    1...
    2....
NO!!!  Zangief barely kicked out.  Clone backed up and tried to hit the move again, but Zangief simply heaved him over his head and onto the mat.  Zangief whipped Clone to the ropes and Clone went spiraling over the top.
The ref called for the bell as Kodiak Marmoset was seen holding the top rope down.

Clone defeated Zangief by disqualification in 0:15:16.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Zangief retained the SMWA Television Title.)

Kodiak beat Clone down on the outside.  The Mercer, PA native had lost it and wasn't going to take it anymore.  But he did end up taking it from Zangief who charged outside and flung Kodiak into the ringpost like he was a small child.  Zangief then left the ring, TV Title intact.
Kodiak has managed to piss off both Titan Tim, The Raiders and Zangief in one night.  This kid had better watch himself.

SMWA North American Title Match
"Titan" Tim Redbury (c) vs Doomsday w/ Extinct

Get the women and children the hell out of the arena cause a war is about to start.  That was the thought of at least one person as these two monsters would duke it out for the North American gold.  I would hate to referee this match.

These two monsters were a bit hesitant to face off right away.  The early part of this match was a feeling out process, each man figuring out exactly how strong the other was.  Doomsday's approach seemed more cautious that usual.  Maybe Extinct had explained the importance of this match and the two had reached an understanding.  Who knows.
The test of strength quickly turned into a brawl and Titan had a chance to show off a few new tricks.  Doomsday whipped him to the ropes and Titan went high with a CROSS BODY for a near fall.  The action then spilled to the outside where both men managed to block each other's finishing maneuvers.  Neither of these giants was going to give any edge to the other.
Back in the ring, Titan seemed to have gained the advantage with a Russian legsweep.  He climbed up the ropes to deliver an elbow, but Doomsday got up and hit a Death from Above chokeslam.  But Titan was quick to recover with a boot to the head.
The match kept going back and forth, each man hitting moves that would break an ordinary man in two.  Eventually, Titan managed to snare Doomsday in an incredible Torture Rack!!!  It looked like Doomsday was going to lose, as there was no way he would be able to get out.
But then Highland Hell took out Titan's knees.  Ghost came flying into the ring and assaulted Doomsday.  The Raiders came to the aid of their leader as The PXM and Major Force found each other in the aisle before they could reach the ring.  The ref called it.

Titan Tim Redbury and Doomsday battled to a double disqualification in 0:9:01.
Rating: 1/4*
(Titan Tim Redbury retained the SMWA North American Title.)

All the factions were there and everybody ended up brawling with everybody else.  Hordes of security came out to the ring and evetually broke the carnage up.

SMWA Luck of the Draw Match

Our first draw was for what kind of match we would be seeing.  It turned out to be a barbed wire thumbtack baseball bat match.  OUCH!!! Vicious enough, to be sure.
The time came to announce who had gotten the first draw and the crowd moaned.  It was former bullfighter Enrico Ferdinand.  Fast but a pretty boy.  He wouldn't work a hardcore match.
The next name was equally disappointing.  It was Kenji Hashimuto.  He had always avoided garbage feds in Japan because of these kinds of matches.
    This match would suck.
    It did.
Enrico won.  That's all I'll say.

Luck of the Draw Barbed Wire Thumbtack Baseball Bat
Enrico Ferdinand pinned Kenji Hashimuto with the El Meurte del Toro in 0:10:28.

Sometimes, Luck of the Draw Matches are classics.  Sometimes they are duds.  Wonder how this one will be remembered?

Main Event
First Blood Match
The Philadelphia X-Treme Machine vs Major Force

RING ANNOUNCER: Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is a tag team First Blood Match.  The match will end when one of the four combatants in this match begins to bleed heavily.

******** cue PXM music ********

RA: Coming down the aisle, accompaignied by Extinct.  From Philadelpiha, Pennsylvania.  They are members of the Doomsday Hunters.  Crash Burnz, Slash Battle... The Philadelphia X-Treme Machine!!!

The crowd was none too happy.  The PXM have alway been hated, as have the Doomsday Hunters, and even being set up against Saul Masters and Skarzz wouldn't change that.

******** cue Major Force music ********

RA: Their opponents are led to the ring by Saul Masters.  At a total combined weight of seven hundred and ten pounds... Alexander "The Grater" and Skarzz.... Major Force!!!!

A few fans were cheering.  CHEERING SAUL MASTERS AND SKARZZ!?!?!  Well, we can only hope there were a lot of Grater fans in the arena.

No rules in this one.  Just make people bloody.  And with the Way Major Force and the DH hate each other, that wouldn't be a problem.
And would Ghost, the newest Force member, fit into this match at all?  How about Doomsday?  I wouldn't doubt it either way.

The PXM took it to Major Force early.  There really wasn't much to call in this match.  Fists, weapons, power.  Nothing fancy.  It was thuggery at it's best.  It ended fairly early when Skarzz got a hold of Battle and started clawing at the side of his face.  He wouldn't let go until he drew blood.
Well, after tearing some of Battle's EAR, the referee called the bout.

First Blood Match:
Major Force (Alexander "The Grater" and Skarzz) defeated The Philadelphia X-Treme Machine in 0:04:53.
Rating: ** 1/4

Crash Burnz broke away from brawling with Grater and hit Skarzz over the head with a chair as Battle held his now bloody ear.  Grater joined the fray and the brawl kept going.  I don't think the PXM really cared that they had lost.  Ghost joined in.  Doomsday joined in.  And Halloween Night started with these six twisted men brawling into the night.
