Monday Night Massacre 09/28/98

"Ladies and gentlemen, please join me at this time in welcoming the NEW SMWA World Heavyweight Champion...Mike Haggar!"

For the first time since June, Mike Haggar walked to the ring with the World Title around his waist. It was time to hear from the once again new SMWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Nick Jones didn't even bother asking questions...he just handed Haggar the mic.

"Zangief...you put on a hell of a fight last night. I'm all the better for having faced you. A lot of people talked about how last night would decide who was the best in wrestling. Well, as far as I'm concerned, you're the best wrestler I've ever faced. You want a rematch, just ask."
"But it seems like the work of a World Champion is never done. Last night, after the show. I recieved a telegram. Here it is: "

"Dear SMWA World Heavyweight Champion. Congratulations! You have just defeated the man you believe to have been your toughest opponent, and now probably believe yourself to be the best wrestler in the world. However, I think you forget that you have not yet earned the distinction of "The Best" until you have beaten Simply the Best. We challenge you to a match tomorrow night on Massacre, you against one member of Simply the Best, with the World Title on the line. If you are half the champion you believe yourself to be, you will accept. Signed Simply the Best."

"Clark, Kent...you two really can't stand that I'm in the spotlight and you're not...does that sound about right? Fine, I'll give you the chance. Tonight, one of Simply the Best wants to face off against me...they've got it!"

And with that, Mike Haggar left the ring. So, tonight's main event...Mike Haggar defends the SMWA World Heavyweight Title against a member of Simply the Best...but which member?

Andrew Marshall and Rod Emerson came out tonight as they did last night...together. Only tonight they had a match, as Emerson and Marshall made their official tag team debut as Steelworks.  Their opponents were still exciting but recently struggling Viajeros.

Steelworks defeated Los Viajeros Dos Mil when Marshall pinned IS-2000 with the De-Facer in 0:05:53.
Rating: ** 3/4

Marshall and Emerson started the match with a strong double team on BC-2000, who was only able to managed a brief flying offense. A tag to IS-2000 did result in an early Crono Flipper that nearly made Steelworks' debut match a very short one. But Marshall and Emerson kept at it, Emerson hitting his waistlock suplex and Marshall shortly thereafter hitting the De-Facer for the pin.

After the match, Los Viajeros got in each others faces. A push led to a shove, a slap led to a punch, and soon the two frustrated luchadors were brawling in the middle of the ring. Apparently, the weeks of losing and sub-par matches have taken their toll. Los Viajeros appear to be no more.

Shadow Maxx was finally free from the Sins. Teknos would be the first "victim" of his independance.
    So it seemed, anyway.
Maxx started quick, planting Teknos with power and speed. He put him through a table with a tombstone piledriver, took the luchador to the guardrail and then hit him with a Dragon suplex onto a steel chair. Things were looking grim for Teknos...
Then, unexpectedly, King Rasta came down to ringside, a disgusted look on his face as Bobby the Monkey cowered in fear on his shoulder. Rasta caught Maxx's eye, and Maxx was distracted enough to miss a shooting star press to the outside, allowing Teknos a big advantage.
Teknos used his technique and ring savy to outwrestle Maxx as a furious Rasta looked on. Maxx was able to regain the lead with the aid of a steel chair, from which he hit a twisting sommersault bodyblock, then a standing moonsault for a VERY near fall. Maxx then went up top.
Rasta swatted Maxx in the leg, causing him to fall on the top ropes. Teknos hit a double underhook superplex and followed up with a Frankensteiner, rolling Maxx up for a BIG upset!!!

Teknos pinned Shadow Maxx after a Frankensteiner in 0:12:08.
Rating: *** 3/4

Rasta then jumped into the ring with a steel chair and beat Maxx down! Rasta was relentless, acting as if Maxx was still a member of the Sins, not a man whose independance he fought for last night. Rasta left Maxx a mess in the ring.
    What on earth just happened?

The SMWA starts up it's toughman division tonight. The rules are simple.

The sixteen wrestlers in the tournament are Cody Simmons, Nord Fullstrom, El Stingray, Judgement, West Bronco, Nitro, The Flying Scotsman, Angus Wallace, Kenji Hashimuto, Blackhook, Akira Wan-Pai, Naga Yajito, Andrew Marshall and Hamish Mactavish.

In our first bout, two old friends would scrap. It would be The Flying Scotsman facing off against his childhood buddy, Hamish Mactavish.
However, a big announcement came before the match. The referee for the Toughman Contests, and a new regular SMWA official would be... "Jumbo" Jack Flap!!!

Scotsman and Hamish wasted no time. Each tried agressively to put the other man down. Scotsman hit first with a single leg. Within seconds of Hamish getting back up, Scotsman floored him with a left hook. Hamish got up at two, but was floored again with a big uppercut. Getting up at five, it looked like Hamish should have taken the eight count, because he was then felled by a Scotsman jab. Jumbo called for the bell.

    Those Highlanders....

Simply the Best then came to the ring. Obviously, they had heard Haggar's response earlier in the program and wanted to give their response.  Clark started off.

"Well, Jerry, it appears as if Haggar has taken up our challenge.  Yup, he's willing to face a member of Simply the Best tonight.  But who's it going to be?"

"Rick, that's a good question.  I'd love to get a piece of Mike Haggar, but then again, you do have the better track record.  I mean, you've pinned Mike Haggar THREE TIMES!!!  How many other wrestlers can say that?"

"Not too many there, Jerry.  But, I don't know.  I figure I've given Haggar enough of a hastle for now.  I mean, sure, I could go on in and end his World Title reign after one short night, but where's the fun in that?  No, I think it shouldn't be me."

"Well, Rick, I'd love another World Title myself...but I actually never thought Haggar would respond to our challenge.  I could still beat Haggar tonight, don't get me wrong...but when I do beat Haggar, I want to be at my best.  After all, Rick, we don't want to make Haggar look good, do we?"

"No, Jerry, no we don't.  We'll, maybe we should move this issue over to a third party."

"Rick, are you saying we should introduce the newest member of Simply the Best?"

"It seems appropriate, Jerry.  Ladies and gentlemen, the man who will be facing Mike Haggar tonight for the SMWA World Heavyweight Championship...."

    "CODY SIMMONS!!!"

And with that, Cody came walking down the aisle.  His head was heavily bandaged from last night.  Both eyes were black, and his nose was broken.  He had a brace on his elbow.  But he was ready to fight.  Cody came into the ring, shook Clark and Kent's hands, and grabbed the mic.

"Mike, this is what happens when you ignore people.  You never returned my phone calls, you've avoided me at every turn, you've turned Jessica against me...but I guess that's okay, right Mike?  After all, with me gone, you've had a chance to suckle that little brat Jack Slade, weaning him into a total disgrace of a human being.  The fact of the matter is, I've always been a better fighter than Slade, I've always been a better friend to you, and I'm still the best damn thing out there for Jessica, even if she doesn't realize it."

With that, Jack Slade came out to the ring, limping, head also bandaged.  He had taken a pretty nasty beating last night at Back Street Brawl, too.  Difference is, he came out on top.  Rather than charge Cody, Slade grabbed the mic.  But as soon as Slade got into the ring, Mike Haggar started making his way down the aisle, Jessica Haggar at his side.

"How many more times do I have to drop you on your head before you shut the Hell up, Simmons.  Look at you.  Face all busted up, elbow in a little brace, standing there looking like a crippled racoon.  And in spite of all of this, you still can't get it through your head, can you."

"No Slade.  I'm thinking clearly.  What you don't understand is there's a lot that's happened with me, your girlfriend and her dad that you couldn't even possibly start to understand.  So you take your skid ass and back the hell off, I'll deal with you later."

Haggar then came into the ring and tried to get Slade out of the ring.

"Jack, this doesn't concern you right now, okay."

"Bull$h*t this doesnt concern me, Mike!  This guy has been a bug up my ass since he got here, and you're trying to tell me that it doesn't concern me?  He harasses Jessica, and this doesn't concern me?  BULL F'N $H*T!!!"

Jess then tried, but Slade would have none of it.

"You three are all talking in some damn code I don't understand.  Crap about New York and the past that you won't let me know.  What the hell....Mike, I'm your friend.  Friends don't keep stuff like this between each other.  And Jess....damn it, we love each other.  But you can't even let me know what the hell this is all about.  Now I want some damn answers!"

Mike paused.  "Fine, Jack.  We'll talk backstage...NOW!"

"Fine by me, Mike.  Fine by me."

Jack headed back to the dressing room.  Mike had one last thing to say.

"Cody, you've never been more of a disgrace than you are right now.  If I got to knock some sense into you tonight to get you thinking straight again....well, I guess what I'm saying is I'll see you in the main event."

And Jess couldn't leave before she had one last word.  "I didn't think you could get any more pathetic, Cody.  I guess I was way off."

Jess then joined Mike and Slade on their way back to the dressing room.  But she made the mistake of leaving Cody with the mic.

"Right, Jess.  I'm pathetic.  If I'm so pathetic, why did you save ME last night?  Huh, Jess?  What do you think about that one, Jack?  You could have been rid of me, but your "girlfriend" saved me!  How about that, Jack?  Huh, Cruncher?  She's mine and you know it!"

Jack did a one eighty and tried to get to the ring.  Haggar stopped him, and took Slade kicking and screaming into the back.

Simply the Best stood in the ring.  Clark took the mic.

"Well, that was interesting.  Looks like there's trouble in paradise.  See you tonight, boys."

********COMMERICIAL BREAK********

We went backstage.  A sly cameraman had caught the Haggars and Slade talking in the back.  The conversation was not going well.

"Damn it, Mike, stop it already."

"Jack, there's some stuff you're better off not knowing, okay.  Trust me on this."

"Dad's right, Jack.  This isn't small, okay.  We wouldn't keep it from you if it was."

"Fine, Jess.  Keep it from me.  I could give a rat's ass.  Take your little secrets, and shove 'em right up your ass, Mike.  I'm outta here."

And with that, Jack Slade left in a huff.  Jessica tried to follow him, but Mike stopped her.  "Let him cool down, okay?"

And we went back into the ring...where Saul Masters and Skarzz were entering.

"Well, Rasta you got him back, and you seem so much happier!  I guess Bobby let you in on all our secrets, eh?  Must be why you got so upset at Maxx.  Yes, Rasta, Maxx did quite a job for me as a Sin.  Blackhook guarded the cage, Glutt and Skarzz guarded me...but who was going to keep that little monkey in line when he got...out of control?  Well, Maxx certainly kept your little runt in line.  He was a good Sin, while he lasted.  I hope Bobby can someday make a full recovery."

"But Rasta, as far as I'm concerned, this isn't over yet.  Skarzz is playing his Wild Card tonight.  You and him, one last time for the TV Title.  How about it?"

As if Rasta had answered the question a week ago, he came streaking down the aisle and Skarrz vs King Rasta for the SMWA TV Title had begun.

Rasta wasted no time.  He hit Skarzz with a backbreaker and a splash, but was WAY too premature in going up top against Skarzz.  A flying kneedrop missed its target by a mile.  Skarzz took control with a powerslam and then threw Rasta outside.  Tossing Rasta into a cameraman, Skarzz then Gorilla pressed Rasta back into the ring.  Rasta ran off of the ropes and leveled Skarzz with a clothesline.  He hit a kneedrop and followed that up with a German suplex.  Rasta then climbed the ropes for the Dread Lock Drop.
Glutt shoved him off the turnbuckle.  The ref called for the DQ.

King Rasta defeated Skarzz by disqualification in 0:05:43.
Rating: *
(King Rasta retained the SMWA Television Title.)

The Sins started laying into Rasta.  If they never had another match against him, they wanted to make sure he'd never wrestle against anybody else.  Bobby the Monkey wisely ran away...and almost got run over by a returning GRANT REDSTONE!!!
Redstone was still dressed in prison wear.  He had just been released that day and wanted the hell into the arena.  He leveled Skarzz with a chair and chased the Sins from the ring.  Redstone then helped Rasta to his feet....
AND SMASHED HIM IN THE BACK WITH A CHAIR!!!  Redstone beat Rasta down again and again.  Why?  What was happening???
When Rasta was finally down on the mat, Redstone left the ring.
What has happened between these three former friends???  Why are Rasta, Redstone and Maxx all at each other's throats???

Next up was another SMWA Toughman Contest -- Akira Wan-Pai vs Naga Yajito.

Akira Wan-Pai             -     0     0    0    0    0    -     0

The brawl between these two martial artist was very even.  Neither man seemed comfortable that they couldn't use their kicks, and each man seemed tempted, trying to psych out their opponents with fake kicks.  Jumbo Jack put a stop to that.  Neither man was able to knock the other down.
Naga took a huge advantage in round two, taking Akira down five times, although Akira was able to land more punches.  Akira, down 35 -15 at this point, had to pick it up.  And he did, outpunching Naga each round and taking him down at least once a round.  It came down to the final round, where Akira did his best, but Naga held tough and was able to take the win, beating Akira by ONE punch in the final round.
Each man gave a respectful bow to the other in mid-ring -- then the arena got a lot darker.  Teioh's music started, and he and Zists appeared in a puff of black smoke outside the ring.  Then, on the other side of the ring, something bright began to shine.  And in the middle of the ring sat Akira and Naga, not really sure what was happening.  Almost as abruptly as it had began, this wierd scene ended.  Akira and Naga were stuck in the middle of the ring, each man giving the other a  worried look.  They seemed to have realized what was going on....to bad we again had no clue.

Well, making more sense was the ongoing war with the Raiders and Sky Entertainment Ltd.  Tonight, West Bronco, fresh off of a big win last night at Back Street Brawl, would face off against Sky Entertainment CEO Terry Sky, who was one million dollars lighter after his loss last night.

The Raiders came to the ring first -- all dressed nicely, with Titan leading the way in a beautiful Armani suit!  Looks like Titan has made his first investment of the millions.

West Bronco pinned Terry Sky with the Tombstone in 0:10:29.
Rating: * 1/4

Bronco DOMINATED much of this match.  He hit the Tombstone in 35 seconds!!!  He didn't get the pin, but he was in the drivers seat for much of the rest of the match.  Sky was able to take the lead when he hit a tope on the outside, but that didn't last too long.  Bronco again outbrawled and overpowered Sky.
A brawl broke out at ringside between Steelworks and Highland Hell.  Steelworks had cost the Highlanders the SMWA Tag Team Titles last night at Back Street Brawl, and they couldn't stand being around them at ringside.  All the members of both stables brawled outside.   With his attention distracted by the events outside, the ref never noticed Marshall whalloping Sky with a chair, which allowed Bronco to hit a second Tombstone for a big upset victory.
    The brawl kept on going.
Damn, though.  Bronco has a hot hand right now.

MAIN EVENT
SMWA World Heavyweight Title Match
Mike Haggar (c) vs Cody Simmons

Jack Slade had left the arena following his argument with Mike Haggar.  So, although it would only be Haggar vs Cody in the ring, Haggar had no defense against Simply the Best, who accompaignied Cody to ringside.  Before the match started, Cody again grabbed the mic.

"Well, Mike, looks like Slade ran off on you too, eh?  Doesn't make him much better than me by your standards, does it?"

Haggar's music started, and the World Champion walked hesitantly to the ring.  He grabbed the mic from Cody.

"Cody, it doesn't have to come to this, okay?  We can still talk.  I don't want to do this to you?"

"Ha!  Look who comes crawling back to his old friend when the Golden Boy runs away!  Mike, you missed that boat a while ago, pal.  You never wanted to talk to me before tonight...why the sudden change of heart?  Not so confident?  Realizing that I'm going to whoop your ass?  What is it, Mike?"

Haggar stared right at Cody, and in a low, stern voice, started talking.  "We don't have to make this any more difficult, Cody.  We can end this without a fight.  Or, we can do it the hard way."

Cody slapped Haggar right in the face.  Haggar paused, then tackled Cody.  The time to talk was over.  The fight was on.
No matter how good of a brawler Haggar may be, starting a match with fists versus Cody is a sure fire way to be at a disadvantage.  Cody took control, peppering Haggar with combo shots.  You never would have suspected Cody to be a man who had been bloodied beyond recognition last night.  He was a man on a mission.
Haggar was able to coutner, hitting Cody with a big lariat and, trying to end it as soon as possible, got him into position for the Screwdriver.  Cody squirmed his way out and quickly retreated to the outside, joining Simply the Best.
Well, Haggar was hot and he followed Cody outside.  In retrospect, it was a bad move.  Clark and Kent distracted Haggar while Cody got a chance to hit his former friend in the back with a television camera.  Cody then smashed Haggar into the ringpost, alomst knocking him out.  The action spilled back inside.
Cody again unloaded with fists, including a vicious spinning back fist that nearly knocked Haggar's teeth out.  Cody kept at it until Haggar was able to connect with a beautiful jack-knife powerbomb.  A flying legdrop almost put an end to Cody right there, but it wasn't close enough.  Less than a minute later, Cody rebounded with a textbook DDT.  But a missed lariat gave Haggar a chance for a back suplex.  Cody flipped over and hit some deadly kidney shots on Haggar.
Cody kept brawling, but you could tell he was wearing himself out.  His match with Slade had taken too much out of him, had caused too many injuries.  Cody was worn down enough for Haggar to start to get the advantage in the brawl.  The match got very ugly from then on.
Punches by Haggar re-opened the stitches on Cody's head, evidenced by the reddening of the bandages wrapped around his head.  Cody was having trouble standing.  The elbow he had managed to use all match was finally wearing down.  Haggar saw what was happening and decided to make the ending a mericful one.
Levelling Cody with a clothesline, Haggar went for the pin.

    NO!!! Cody kicks out.
Haggar was looking very flustered and worried at this point.  He hit Cody with bridging back suplex and the ref again counted.
    1...
    2....
    NO!  Cody kicked out again!
Haggar stood back in disbelief as a now very bloody Cody got to his feet, almost daring Haggar to hit him.  Haggar turned away for a second, then leveled Cody with a spinning lariat.  He then hit the Screwdriver.

Mike Haggar pinned Cody Simmons with the Screwdriver in 0:10:47.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Mike Haggar retained the SMWA World Heavyweight Title.)

Haggar got up, looking disgusted at what had just happened.  But Simply the Best wouldn't allow Haggar to dwell in the moment.  They attacked him and took him to the outside.  Haggar was being mercilessly beaten down by two former world champions.  And nobody was there to save him.
Kent hit Haggar in the back with a chair.  Clark then repeated the move.  Haggar was tossed around ringside like a rag doll.  It looked like Haggar would end up like Cody....
But then, from the crowd came JACK SLADE!!! Slade hadn't left the arena!  He was here, and he was helping Mike Haggar.
Simply the Best ran from ringside.  Slade didn't help Haggar up, though.  He just stared at him.  No words were spoken.  Slade just stared.  He then made his way backstage, brushing right by Jessica Haggar.
Cody Simmons was being wheeled back to the dressing room on a stretcher by paramedics.  Again, silent, Slade walked by the stretcher and tipped it, sending an injured Cody onto the arena floor.
And Slade just walked right by, right into the dressing room.
