Saturday Night Slam Masters
Apr 11, 1998

At the start of the program, a camera in the back catches The Dream Team of Rod Emerson and "Irish" Peter McKee in the back of the arena. Neither are scheduled to wrestle tonight, but it's a safe bet they will get involved in the SuperStars Inc. vs Los Viajeros Dos Mil match later on.

Highland Hell defeated North & South when Wallace pinned North with a powerslam at 0:25
DUD

A 25 second debut for the team of SMWA mainstay Angus Wallace and newcomer Hamish Mactavish. North & South have yet to get on track. In the SMWA. A rematch will be held this Monday on Massacre.

Quasar defeated Rokuru with the Astral Roll at 13:01
DUD

Very disapointing that these two crusierweights couldn't put on a better show. Both had just come of tours of Japan and Mexico, so travel may have played a factor. Both men exchanged all of their trademark holds, but seemed markedly slower while doing it.

Mauling Bear made Judgement submit to the Grizzly Bearhug at 4:51
DUD

There seems to be a trend here. Don't worry, the matches get better later. Mauling Bear and Judgement are the SMWA equivalent of Tatanka as a heel and Big Bubba. The fact that the match was only a DUD is fairly impressive in that respect. Mauling Bear goes on to face Skarzz this Monday for the TV Title.

West Bronco w/Extinct beat Rod Briar with the Tombstone at 7:45
-*

Briar is a jobber, Bronco is part of the Doomsday Hunters...figure out the whys. The fact that this match got any sort of rating has to do totally with Bronco's energy.

TV Title Match
Skarzz w/Saul Masters defeated Jean DuPuis with the Skarring at 13:12
*3/4

Unfortunately, the styles of these two just didn't mesh as well as I had hoped. Skarzz kept no selling moves from DuPuis, since the cruiserweight DuPuis didn't have the power to faze Skarzz. He mat wrestled him for most of the match, which kept Skarzz from employing his power attack, but DuPuis never really had control. When Skarzz was up, he dominated, and the ending was very sudden. DuPuis had Skarzz locked in a kneebar, when Skarzz broke it, picked up DuPuis and delivered the Skarring for the win.

SMWA Commisioner Jack McCullough then came out an made an announcement concerning Slam Masters: Purgatory. Signed were King Rasta and Zangief vs Skarzz in a TV Title Handicap Match, Saul Masters vs Extinct in a cage, Lovechild vs Charles Slayer in an I Quit Match and Pain & Agony vs Greed & Gluttony in a falls-count-anywhere bout. The stipulation that if a Sins member lost, he would cease associations with Masters has been upheld.

Lovechild beat Mighty Mite with a flying forearm at 7:50
-****

Mighty Mite is a jobber who is smaller than Rey Misterio but not as athletic. I apologize for ever signing this match.

The Fallen defeated Rocky LaRoque and Strohm Mason when Angel pinned Mason with the Hellfire Spike at 24:01
-*****

The worst match in SMWA HISTORY, folks. Never let two jobber teams wrestle.

A satelite interview was held with King Rasta and Zangief. Both acknowledged their reluctantness to team with one another, and both told the other to "keep up their end of the bargain or else". They will be a team at Purgatory...maybe not a gelling one, but a team nonetheless.

Teknos defeated Fire Dragon with the Teknospinner at 16:36
****1/4

This made up for all of tonight's crapy matches. These two luchadors put together a high-flying clinic with plenty of incredible on the mat reversals as well. Match highlights included Fire Dragon attempting (and missing) his Dragon Fire springboard legdrop...from the INSIDE TO THE FLOOR! and Teknos connecting with a Frankensteiner out of a handspring. The end came when Fire Dragon again missed the Dragon Fire (the right way) and Teknos hit him with the flying corkscrew press known as the Teknospinner. What a match.

Los Viajeros Dos Mil beat SuperStars Inc. (w/ Sarge X) by countout at 13:17
**1/2

In the past these two teams have engaged in five star tag team classics. Tongiht, the match was marred by the interference of the Dream Team, who was still upset about the involvement of SuperStars in their match this Monday. After a beatiful Luchador-style brawl outside the ring, as the ref tried to get things in order, Emerson and McKee hit El Stingray with a double DDT outside the ring, causing the count-out.

Champion vs Champion
Naga Yajito (Crusierweight Champion w/ Akira Wan-Pai) bead Chad Hillsman (North American Champion) with an inside cradle at 11:22
**1/2

Whole lot of respect for Naga tonight. Outweighed by 55 lbs, he took everything the All-American could give him and kept kicking out. The match was about 70% Hillsman, who probably would have had the match won if the ref hadn't got knocked out. Akira, Naga's cornerman for the evening, entered the ring and delivered his deadly Tetzuzanko shot to the base of Hillsman's spine, rendering him all but finished. All three men came to at the same time, and all the ref saw was Naga rolling Chad into a pin and a three count.

Akira then came into the ring and challenged Hillsman to a match this Monday on Massacre. Chad accepted, not realizing that Akira meant a TAG TEAM match, with Akira and Naga facing Chad and whoever he could find as a partner.

Thing is, everybody hates Chad Hillsman. He's a xenophobe, a racist and basically a complete jerk. Who's going to want to team with him?

Well, that's the end of an interesting Saturday Night. The first seven matches BIT HARD, but the confusion and the action at the end made up for it.

What about Fire Dragon and Teknos, eh? Wow. Naga Yajito had better watch it, as these two certainly are primed for a crusierweight title shot at any time.

Next Saturday is Purgatory, with the card to be finalized this Monday on Massacre.
