When the Annual Reports conflict with other sources, the Annual Report date was used as under the assumption that it reflects the dates of actual service rather than the date assigned by the War Deparment or Navy Department. There are also some minor conflicts between Annual Reports in different years (usually a matter of a few days or weeks).
